Go Buy: Feed Me- Escape From Electric Mountain EP [Mau5trap]

6 Feb

Feed Me is back with another wild aural adventure full of dubstep, electro, dnb, house and his signature next level touch.

Just a week after label mate Moguai dropped Mpire, Feed Me stepped up to release another highly touted EP on Mau5trap. The 6 track EP is a full on journey and the diversity is easy to see with tracks like Relocation vs. One Click Head Shot. Both are easily my favourite tracks but so completely different and unique.

This is an album that I would classify as ‘forward thinking’ and is definitely worth the ‘Go Buy’ status.

Go Buy: Moguai- Mpire (Mau5trap)

1 Feb

Moguai dropped his two year in the making masterpiece on Mau5trap yesterday and it lives up to the expectations.

His first album- We Are Lyve destroyed the charts in 2010 and won over the hearts of EDM aficionado’s with tracks like ‘Blau’ and ‘Oyster’. ‘Blau’ in particular really stood out and was quickly added to my ‘songs that make me feel warm and fuzzy inside’ list.

Mpire is a 14 track EP filled with progressive melodies, bouncy baselines and a feel good vibe. The opening track- ‘Smyle’ makes you wanna do just that and is a testament to the rest of the album.

Do yourself a favour and buy Moguai-Mpire. It’s value and impact are comparable to that of regular sessions with a therapist, minus the cost.

Afrojack & Shermanology – Can’t Stop Me *Preview

11 Jan

We rarely if ever post previews so with that being said, you know this track is going to be BIG!

Afrojack brings us back to ‘Take Over Control’ and leaves us with a track that doesn’t make us want to rip our ears off. Not too bleepy, beautiful vocals and mega drops will no doubt launch this into the sets of anyone with a pulse.

To be released on January 23rd on Wall Recordings

Cazzette- Killmode vs. Fatboy Slim (CZT’s A Soccer Hurdle Bootleg)

5 Jan

We all know that Cazzette are on the brink of superstardom. This is especially apparent due to the support of At Night Management who until signing the duo has been the primary platform for Avicii and his various aliases.

At first I think a lot of us were wondering what set the Swedish duo apart and what made them deserving of accompanying the godliness of Avicii.

With huge remixes of ‘Save The World’, ‘Levels’ and ‘Sweet Dreams’ under their belts they have carved out a little niche in the electro/house realm. Their high energy productions are meant for the big room and their hybrid electro/dubstep sound is edgy and highly addictive. If their growing portfolio isn’t enough to convince you of their prowess then ‘Right Here Right Now’ will no doubt make you a believer.

Best Of 2011: Odds & Ends

4 Jan

Wrapping up the best tracks of 2011 hasn’t been easy. Over the past 12 months thousands of tracks were released in varying styles and with the popularity of genre blending, categorizing them has been a daunting task.

After revealing our Best Of’s Trance, Dubstep, House, Prog House, Electro, Tech House & Mashups we decided to highlight some of the tracks that just missed the cut.

For the sake of this ‘Best Of’ series and my sanity, we have picked our favourite tracks of 2011 based on genres categorized by Beatport. With that being said, our picks are purely based on personal taste and they give remixes the same weight as an original track.

Steve Aoki & Zuper Blahq – I’m In The House (R3hab’s Surrender Remix)

25 Dec

R3hab caps off an impressive year with a Christmas gift to his fans.

He takes Aoki’s crowd pleaser and adds in his magic touch but keeps the chainsaw madness on the softer side. A tasteful remix giving his 2011 portfolio some contrast.

Download ‘I’m In The House’ below and check out his new preview for Far East Movement.

Best Of 2011: Electro House

22 Dec

Electro House has seen its fair share of attention this year. It has quickly transformed from being one of the most popular sub-genres of electronic music to being one of the most blurred genres out there.

Electro has almost turned into a secondary category that only accompanies dubstep and is rarely seen in its purest form. With a new crop of artists like Porter Robinson, Zedd and Mord Fustang- Electro has become a stepping stone in the melting pot of EDM.

For the sake of this ‘Best Of’ series and my sanity, we have picked our favourite tracks of 2011 based on genres categorized by Beatport. With that being said, our picks are purely based on personal taste and they give remixes the same weight as an original track.

The Winners:

Mord Fustang has been very successful in keeping his productions melodic while maintaining the harder elements of electro house. With tracks like ‘Milky Way’, ‘Electric Dream’ and ‘A New World’ he brings in big bass drops and a touch of dubstep. My #1 pick for Electro House track of the year has to go to ‘Lick The Rainbow’.

Mord Fustang- Lick The Rainbow (Original Mix)

I don’t even need to talk about the year Porter Robinson has had. From high school obscurity to opening for Tiesto… From big remixes and his debut album on OWSLA he has been at the forefront of the Electro House movement and has been instrumental in its transformation. With some very strong tracks on his Spitfire EP, his remix of Spencer & Hill- Less Go is my #2 pick of the year.

Spencer & Hill- Less Go! (Porter Robinson Remix)

Honourable Mention:

Beatport has categorized ‘Strange Behaviour’ as both dubstep and drum n bass but it has that genre crossing electro feel that we have become accustomed to. This track has been released both on Mau5trap Records and UKF and deserves the honourable mention position.

Charlie Darker- Deadroll (Original Mix)

15 Dec

After Charlie Darker came out of obscurity to release ‘Vader’ (see below) I was an instant fan. The dubstep collab with Toronto MC- Dante Leon will easily make it on the ‘best of 2011’ list and be remembered for years to come.

With that being said, Charlie has unleashed a new track. Calling it a fusion between electro, moombahton and dubstep, ‘Deadroll’ is another stepping stone in Charlie’s bright future. And after hitting the 1,000 Facebook Likes it can be YOURS to listen to non-stop.

Hit him up on Facebook and make sure you grab ‘Vader’ below!

Avicii – Don’t Give Up On Us (Enough Is Enough) (Pixel Cheese ‘Hype Machine’ Mix)

26 Nov

Pixel Cheese aptly named his latest bootleg the ‘Hype Machine’ Mix as it will no doubt make the rounds of every self respecting blog out there. The remix adds some much needed energy and is very comparable to the Project 46 bootleg that was unleased this week.

Keeping the vocals and breakdown intact adds to the anticipation and magnitude of the driving base line and synth filled drop and makes this a big winner in my books.

Either way, this is a great alternative to the original and will be well received at your saturday night festivities.

Deniz Koyu vs. Kaskade vs. Fatboy Slim

21 Nov

Deniz Koyu’s ‘Hertz’ hasn’t really been herting for attention. The track has been essential in the latest onslaught of mashups and bootlegs and Kaskade’s latest FREE Monday mashup is proof.

Also, if you missed Tiesto’s Club Life last week then get yourself acquainted with Makj & Politik whose ‘Hertz’ mashup was featured on the show.

Avicii – Enough is Enough (Project 46 Bootleg)

21 Nov

It’s only fair that after we completely ignored Project 46 that we show some IMMEDIATE love for their newest release.

I have literally listened to ‘Enough Is Enough’ so many times that my Gramma could record herself banging some pots and pans together, add it to the instrumentals and it would sound better than the original.

This is not to take away from the brilliance that the Canadian duo have placed upon this anthem because it is indeed a special bootleg. And a FREE download too??? Can’t beat that…

Hardwell vs Red Carpet – Cobra is Gonna Be Alright (Project 46 Mashup)

19 Nov

I don’t know how this one slipped threw the cracks but thankfully we didn’t completely miss the boat on Project 46. The Canadian duo have released some excellent mashups and tore up the Hype Machine charts last week with their two new original tracks.

But this mashup takes the cake for me. I wasn’t a huge fan of Hardwell’s ‘Cobra’ but with the addition of ‘Everything is gonna be Alright’ this is a biggg big tune. Find plenty more HERE.

Timbaland ft. Pitbull- Pass At Me (Tim Mason Remix)

18 Nov

Usually the mention of Pitbull makes my ears retract into my head and my hand immediately search for the radio dial but Tim Mason has made the unexpectable possible.

He transformed this top 40 hit into a club banger with his usual high energy driving basslines and tantalizing buildups. Another beauty to add to the weekend set list.
