It’s been a weird year for Trance music and it’s die hard fans. As genre lines blurred and the evolution of ‘Trouse’ erupted, it became increasingly difficult to categorize real Trance music.
With trance titans like Tiesto crossing over into electro/house we were left scratching our heads and wondering, is this trouse? progressive trance? Or should we even bother defining genres at all anymore?
For the sake of this ‘Best Of’ series and my sanity, we have picked our favourite tracks of 2011 based on genres categorized by Beatport. With that being said, our picks are purely based on personal taste and they give remixes the same weight as an original track.
My #1 pick for best Trance track of the year was an easy one. I can’t count how many times i’ve listened to HEFTY and how inspirational it has been. Whether it’s been motivation at the gym or that extra push to get out of bed in the morning this is hands down the song of the year for me.
Dezza- Hefty (Original Mix)
Above & Beyond have had a stellar year to say the least. The 10 year anniversary of Anjunabeats, their 2nd studio album- ‘Group Therapy’ and a world tour is a productive year in my books. Their standout track ‘Sun & Moon’ is amazing on it’s own but the remix from Kim Fai is out of this world. This track still gives me goosebumps and is my #2 pick.

Dash Berlin is a trance icon and continues to bring that stereotypical ‘trancey’ sound. His collab with Jonathan Mendelsohn is nothing short of stunning and deserves the honourable mention spot.
We all know that you can’t have a successful roady without good tunes. After concluding a 7,000 km road trip that brought me from London, Ontario to Whitehorse, Yukon I am happy to say that I made it alive and that I ‘test drove’ the shit out of my music collection.

I made it clear that I was done with any more ‘Save The World’ remixes but this new mashup from Basile Radelfinger forced me to break some rules.
What I like most about this mashup is the way the overplayed vocals are given a whole new life with the seamless combination of house and trance music. The euphoric buildup takes the drop to a whole new level and makes me wonder why no one has given the SHM hit a trancey makeover. Either way Basile did something right with this track and it needs to be heard by the masses.

I have been meaning to do a massive post covering my unbelievable experience at Lollapalooza as well as another biggie with all the music submitted to us but there are not enough hours in the day. For now I decided to give you all the tracks that I have put on Soundcloud over the past year. This is a serious dose of Conductor Beats and includes everything from Trance to Dubstep to Techno. For now they are all under the 100 download limit so hit the jump for an onslaught of FREE tunes!
Dash Berlin is at it again this time featuring the soothing vocals of Jonathan Mendelsohn. The king of trance follows up Earth Hour with this melodic anthem that will leave you in a constant state of euphoria.
When it comes to Trance music there are several artists that we can count on for consistency. Some names that come to mind are Above & Beyond, Armin Van Buuren and the man you see above- Dash Berlin.
Dash Berlin built up a following and reputation for delivering moving productions and lengthy sets, sometimes spinning for 8+ hours in various places throughout Europe. It would appear that he is a one man show but what a lot of people don’t know is that Dash Berlin is now actually comprised of 3 members. In 2006, Eelke Kalberg and Sebastiaan Molijn joined Dash in the studio and now contribute to what has been labeled the Dash Berlin Sound.
Another interesting fact is that Kalberg & Molijn used to be members of the popular eurodance group- Alice DeeJay.
Either way Dash Berlin is a force to be reckoned with and his/their latest efforts prove once again that Trance is NOT dead.
In my eyes Dezza is already a household name. For me he ranks up there with Adam K, Dinka and Kid Massive for most underrated artists in the EDM scene today. The Halifax resident has been producing music for the past decade and has made his way from your run of the mill hip-hop dj to internationally renowned house and trance producer. With praise from Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Sander Van Doorn and Paul Van Dyk (to name a few) his music has that new kid on the block sound with an OG attitude.
I have been quoted as saying his track ‘Hefty’ is THE BIGGEST TUNE of the year and I still stand by that statement.
In good fashion Dezza has followed up his breakout hit with another piece of heaven titled ‘I Wonder’. Released on Spinnin’ Records sub label- Oxygen on July 4th and followed by plenty of international support. ‘I Wonder’ has a lot of similarities to ‘Hefty’ as you will hear but it still packs its own lunch. Buns buttered, rammed full of meat and an addicting taste that will leave you wanting more. Please support good music and buy this one today!
Also, check out our interview with Dezza in the INTERVIEW tab at the top of the page!
We throw around the label ‘summer tunes’ quite a bit here and today I am happy to throw another one your way. Dankann sprinkles some of his signature summer vibe touch on the Jose Amnesia’s already classic track. For maximum listening pleasure add cold beverages and a sunny day.
When I think of summer music two names quickly come to mind…Tom Fall and Dezza. If you haven’t heard of either keep reading and thank me later. They live on opposite ends of the globe but I grouped them together because they both have a way of tantalizing your ear drums with silky smooth and euphoric progressive house music. If soft synths, dreamy vocals and 128 bpm floats your boat, then consider these guys the water under the bridge… or something like that.
To start you off here are my favourite tracks from each artist. Sitting at 10 minutes long ‘HEFTY’ may be my favourite track of the year and brings out the harder electro and trance side from Dezza. It has garnered support from everyone including Tiesto and Armin Van Buuren. ‘Stillness’ is the perfect starter for a Tom Fall set and is the definition of a summer house banger.
Also, preview the Dezza remix to Tom Fall’s standout track ‘Voices’ and if are up for supporting good music and spending $4 then buy these immediately!

We don’t post much Trance here at Ambassador Beats so I thought i’d dig one out of the crates for you today. Since posting the Kim Fai remix the house/trance beats have been flowing strong over here at headquarters. And then I learned that OceanLab is actually the entire trio from Above & Beyond + vocalist Justine Suissa which makes this track even better. Bringing you back to 2008 with this uplifting anthem courtesy of arguably THE BEST trance group in the world… yes, sit down Tiesto.
As my academic career winds down I find that I have become increasingly intolerant of school work. Yet another fackin’ day in the library leads to an immediate feeling of hatred for academia and a downward spiral in my moods. The only thing keeping me going today are my Tim Horton’s coffee and Matt Crofford. The Timmy’s gives me the caffeine boost that spurs on my motivation to grind through this and Crofford gives me the mental boost that keeps me from throwing my laptop through the 3rd story window and jumping out after it.
If you are hating life as much as me today then sit back, throw these two jams on and let the music take you to a better place. And while you’re at it check out Matt Crofford on Soundcloud, Facebook, & Twitter
We brought you the BBC Radio 1 rip and now we are happy to bring you the full quality remix courtesy of Ambassador Beats favourite- Avicii. If you were a fan of ‘Bromance’ then this will greatly exceed your expectations. The Trance/House mix is on the money. This is a BIG TUNE!
It has been a slow weekend for quality music but we are going to start the week off on a good note with a big time guest on tonight’s episode of The Rinse. For those of you who don’t know I host a weekly radio show on CJAM 99.1fm in Windsor & Detroit with fellow music lover/dj/producer- Feeva. Tonight we are happy to bring you an exclusive 30 minute mix and live interview from electronic music genius- Dezza. This rising star is a fellow Canadian and has been gaining a lot of attention in the last year including an opening spot for Wolfgang Gartner, 15 minutes of fame on Tiesto’s Club Life and international support from Markus Schulz, Pete Tong, Armin Van Buuren, Bart Claessen & Paul Van Dyk to name a few. He is known for his melodic, tantalizing progressive house but doesn’t shy away from electro, tech, techno and trance. Be sure to tune in tonight at 10:30 by clicking here!
Matt Crofford is back with an awesome mix of Progressive House and Trance tunes to help you get through the winter weather. A huge storm is bearing down on us in the next couple days so if your locked up inside your house this mix is a great way to keep you busy.
You can download this from both his soundcloud account as well from Itunes as a podcast. If you like what you hear check out more Matt Crofford stuff from his soundcloud page which can be found here. He has a Fall, Summer and Spring Mix from 2010 that are all worth checking out.
Before I take off for a weekend of skiing I will leave you with a banging trance tune courtesy of Dash Berlin and featuring vocals from Aussie- Emma Hewitt. This is a radio rip from Tiesto’s club life I believe but there are no tags and it is excellent quality. You can buy this track along with the dub mix and the radio edit HERE
I am going to go out on a limb and say that this is the biggest post I’ve ever threw down on AmbassadorBeats. If you are a fan of The Temper Trap’s masterpiece- ‘Sweet Disposition’ then you are in for a treat. I scoured the web to bring you the best of the best of Dubstep, House, Electro, Progressive, Trance etc. etc. remixes. Hit the jump and I promise you will not be disappointed.
New release from trance dj/producer Blue Tente representing Romania in fine form. He dropped this new EP on Redux Recordings which contains 2 new tracks. My favourite of the two, ‘Antarctic Day’ starts off hard, and at first listen doesn’t seem like a stand out tune. But it quickly evolves into a melodic, euphoric and chilled out song that could accompany you on any activity or journey that you may be embarking on. For me, i’ve got this at the top of my study playlist and this will no doubt be getting me through the next two weeks of hell. Grab the full EP here
