Against All Odds – Illa and VCU Article

31 Mar

Stretch Spellburg created this great article about the similarities between Final Four underdogs VCU and Illa Scorsese.

We are all eagerly anticipating Illas next album Illavation which is set to drop April 11th. This little write up brights light to the underdog spirit that is taking over Virginia right now.

Cheer on VCU this weekend and prepare yourself for the take off of Illavation.

Fleet Foxes New Video

31 Mar

Fleet Foxes are gearing up for their latest release Helplessness Blues. They dropped a brand new video for their song Grown Ocean. I’ve really been digging these guys recently, and as my good friend Chris would say, it sounds rich. Enjoy.

Two Door Cinema Club Daytrotter Session

31 Mar

If you are new to Ambassador Beats, you might not know that one of my favourite bands are Two Door Cinema Club. If you’re a regular Ambassador Beats reader you’ll remember they were my Number 1 choice for my Top 10 indie albums of the year last year.

This past week they stopped into the Daytrotter Studio and recorded 4 songs from their debut LP Tourist History. These songs are preformed with merely acoustic guitars, so none of the synth and accompaniment that really defined their record.

It’s a completely different sound and brings something new to these tracks. I would love if they did an entire album this way. The guitar break downs are amazing and could definitely bring in a completely difference audience.

Check out Something Good Can Work and Undercover Martyn below and Click here to head to the Daytrotter website to download this EP for FREE.

The Entrance Music Video – Chip Tha Ripper

30 Mar

http://vimeo.com/21625920

Chip Tha Ripper just dropped a video for his song The Entrance off his latest mixtape Gift Raps. Chip hasn’t exactly blown up to the same amount as Wiz or B.o.B. but I still see big things in the future for him. Be sure to check this out and if you like it, download the mixtape.

Oh, These Indistinct Years of You.

30 Mar

So last week Nick Steinborn of The Wonder Years sat down and recorded a four song EP entitled Oh, These Indistinct Years of You. He is offering this EP as a pay-what-you-want download on his Bandcamp page with all proceeds going to The American Red Cross in support of the recent events in Japan.

The EP is comprised of four experimental instrumental songs that are something completely different from The Wonder Years. It sounds almost like a mix of Explosions In The Sky and Brand New from the middle part of their career.

I really enjoyed the EP and think that Nick is doing something great here. Please go out and grab this EP and give what you can. I can promise you the four songs are worth it.

XV Foreign Exchange Student feat. Miami Horror

30 Mar

It’s been a BIG couple days here at Ambassador Beats, so it would only be fitting that XV would release a song that includes Miami Horror smash hit Holidays.

Foreign Exchange Student is XV rapping over Miami Horror and this track has been a huge draw in the last six months. Ambassador Beats first wrote about Miami Horror in the beginning of September and that song still brings people to the site daily.

I personally love this tune and think that XV does it justice. Check it out below and download it for FREE.

Love Is Darkness Remix

29 Mar

SXSW, Beyond Wonderland & Ultra Music Week have really thrown a wrench into the amount of releases over the past month and for those of us unable to make it to these events- life has been hard. Not only have we been inundated with footage and news of the epicness that has ensued but we had to sit through it all with very few new tunes. Well I think its fair to say that the flood gates will soon be opened and I am happy to kick that off with a brand new remix of Sander Van Doorn’s heater ‘Love Is Darkness’. The remix set consists of cuts from Manuel De La Mare, Ummet Ozcan and my personal favourite- the Basto! Bigroom Baby Mix. Check it out below and pick up your copy of the Love Is Darkness Remixes

Stream Emerys New Album We Do What We Want

28 Mar

Tomorrow Emery will release their latest album We Do What We Want. They have made the album available to AOL Music so that their fans can stream the album before it hits the shelves tomorrow.

Emery started out as a screamo band and slowly moved away from that genre but this album has reignited their screamo roots. Although there are still melodic chorus lines, a large portion of the album includes screaming.

You can click here to head to AOL to check out the entire album stream, or you can check out my two favourite songs off the album The Curse of Perfect Days and I‘m Not Here For Rage I’m Here For Revenge below.

Chunk No Captain Chunk

28 Mar

So just stumbled upon a French hardcore pop-punk band that go by the name Chunk! No Captain Chunk. It’s so random that it is actually amazing.

They are the perfect mix of double kick drums and gang vocals to instantly have me hooked. There has been a void of good bands in that genre, and it might be because most people only look inside North America for their pop-punk.

They released an album in 2010 entitled Something For Nothing and it has taken over my Itunes. If you are into hardcore pop-punk, you need to check these guys out now! They are currently touring in Japan so hopefully they remain safe and keep the music coming. Listen to In Friends We Trust below.

You Are A Tourist

28 Mar

On May 31st, Death Cab For Cutie are back with their 7th full length album, Codes and Keys. Death Cab have been around for a long time, and one word I can associate with them is consistency. Every single album they have released is outstanding in its own personal way.

When I was in highschool, there was a period of time where 3-4 times a week during morning spare a couple buddies and I would go bowling. What started out as a joke turned into a bit of a nickname. My bowling name was Death Cab and I embraced it.

Death Cab For Cutie make music that draws an emotional response. Through catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics, it is hard to not like what you hear. Their new song, You Are A Tourist is no different.

There is a specific line in this song that hit me and made me realize just how much I love Death Cab.

And if you feel just like a tourist in the city you were born, it’s time to go.

Death Ray Vision!

28 Mar

Got something for the hardcore fans out there. Death Ray Vision are a brand new band that are comprised of some of the best Hardcore artists that Boston has to offer. Members of bands like Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall and Overcast have come together to form a new Boston super group.

Death Ray Vision just released their first single Shattered Frames off of their debut album Get Lost or Get Dead. The band has this to say about their sound and what they imagine their band to be:

The songs are short blasts of energy and intensity built on thrash metal rhythms and chugging guitar riffs. DEATH RAY VISION recalls the insanity of the old hardcore days while remaining focused on destroying the future.

Check out Shattered Frames below.

Above & Beyond Pres. OceanLab

26 Mar

We don’t post much Trance here at Ambassador Beats so I thought i’d dig one out of the crates for you today. Since posting the Kim Fai remix the house/trance beats have been flowing strong over here at headquarters. And then I learned that OceanLab is actually the entire trio from Above & Beyond + vocalist Justine Suissa which makes this track even better. Bringing you back to 2008 with this uplifting anthem courtesy of arguably THE BEST trance group in the world… yes, sit down Tiesto.
