Martin Solveig & Dragonette- Hello (Speaker of the House Remix)

16 Feb

I really thought we were done with the ‘Hello’ remixes but I believe we have a late bloomer here.

Speaker Of The House- a Philly native, has constructed a pleasant dubstep remix which gives the vocals a chop and the bassline some much needed wobble.

Check it out as well as some new stuff on his Soundcloud

Jay-Z & Kanye West – Niggas In Paris (Clark Kent Remix)

8 Feb

This track is the definition of overplayed so it’s only right that Clark Kent swooped in to revive the standout hit from ‘Watch The Throne’.

Hov and ‘Ye are no strangers to dubstep and after the Flux Pavilion sample on ‘Who Gon Stop Me’ it was only a matter of time before we heard their smooth flow mixed with some wobble.

Clark Kent does a great job of keeping the integrity of the original while adding in his own magic touch and it all adds up to a winning combination.

Skrillex- Mothership Tour (Short Film)

6 Feb

I can’t help but sit back in awe at the year that young Sonny Moore has had.

On top of the grammy nods, countless releases and collaborations he has toured the world playing festivals and shows almost non-stop. He has gone from riding the coattails of label head Deadmau5 to sitting at the top of not only the electronic music hierarchy, but the entire MUSIC INDUSTRY.

Love him or hate him he has become an icon and a brand all at the same time and there is no sight of this changing anytime soon. Check out the 10 minute short film which captures a glimpse into the exciting life of one of the world’s most popular artists.

Go Buy: Feed Me- Escape From Electric Mountain EP [Mau5trap]

6 Feb

Feed Me is back with another wild aural adventure full of dubstep, electro, dnb, house and his signature next level touch.

Just a week after label mate Moguai dropped Mpire, Feed Me stepped up to release another highly touted EP on Mau5trap. The 6 track EP is a full on journey and the diversity is easy to see with tracks like Relocation vs. One Click Head Shot. Both are easily my favourite tracks but so completely different and unique.

This is an album that I would classify as ‘forward thinking’ and is definitely worth the ‘Go Buy’ status.

Foxes – Youth (Adventure Club Dubstep Remix)

3 Feb

Since Codhoppers took some time off to make babies, Ambassador Beats has kind of turned into my personal playlist gone public.

We’ll probably lose lots of readers due to the lack of hip hop/indie/rock etc. that doesn’t fall under the ELECTRONIC MUSIC umbrella but that’s ok cause it’s still fun as ever to post music that I love.

With that being said, Adventure Club are killing it right now. Everything they release is AMAZING and FREE. Two of my favourite things. Grab the latest dubstep assault and check these guys out on Soundcloud

Fenech Soler- Demons (Minnesota Remix)

1 Feb

Minnesota is known for transforming classics (B.I.G- Juicy, Mama’s & The Papa’s- California Dreaming to name a few) into bass heavy crowd pleasers.

His latest work, a remix to Fenech Soler’s ‘Demons’ is a treat for the eardrums. Throw the headphones on and escape to some soothing dubstep and check out more from Minnesota on his Soundcloud & Facebook

Bangers & Mash

29 Jan

It’s about time for another ‘too busy to post music here’s a bunch of sick mashups’ feature.

Now that Bangers & Mash is an official radio show on CJUC 92.5 in Whitehorse, Yukon it only seems fair to give the rest of the world their dose of electronic music.

Four mashups, all FREE and all amazing and if you are one of the 27,000 people that reside in Whitehorse- crank that dial to 92.5FM every Friday night from 8-11pm.

Nero – Must Be The Feeling (Delta Heavy Remix)

26 Jan

Holy shit have you heard of Delta Heavy??? Me neither… until today.

They took Nero’s ‘Must Be The Feeling’ and tazered it with 5000 volts of pure bass and glitchy dubstep. The UK duo categorize their music under Drum n Bass/House/Dubstep but this remix is something out of this world. A distinct disco vibe mixed with some moombahton? Whatever it is it’s f*cking AWESOME!

Dada Life – Happy Violence (Timo Juuti & Hector 87 Disco Wobblez Bootleg)

9 Jan

We’ve heard our fair share of Happy Violence remixes over the last month but few of them have been worth talking about.

Thanks to Timo Juuti & Hector 87 we can finally put the issue and the remix to rest. The duo brings a very unique disco/dubstep take which creates a really fun and upbeat but yet chilled out feel.

And if you missed it get yourself acquainted with Special Features who took home the winning remix for the Dada Life competition.

Best Of 2011: Odds & Ends

4 Jan

Wrapping up the best tracks of 2011 hasn’t been easy. Over the past 12 months thousands of tracks were released in varying styles and with the popularity of genre blending, categorizing them has been a daunting task.

After revealing our Best Of’s Trance, Dubstep, House, Prog House, Electro, Tech House & Mashups we decided to highlight some of the tracks that just missed the cut.

For the sake of this ‘Best Of’ series and my sanity, we have picked our favourite tracks of 2011 based on genres categorized by Beatport. With that being said, our picks are purely based on personal taste and they give remixes the same weight as an original track.

Progressive House

Florence & The Machine vs. Mark Knight- You’ve Got the Love

Deadmau5- Aural Psynapse (2nd Edit)

Drum n Bass

Blu Mar Ten- Whisper (feat. Kirsty Hawkshaw)

Best Of 2011: Dubstep

28 Dec

I think it’s safe to say that Dubstep owned 2011. It’s emergence in the mainstream is nothing new for the Brits but as Skrillex hit every media outlet this side of London, it literally blew up the scene. Now every tween is throwing away the Bieber albums for the latest Skream joint.

For the sake of this ‘Best Of’ series and my sanity, we have picked our favourite tracks of 2011 based on genres categorized by Beatport. With that being said, our picks are purely based on personal taste and they give remixes the same weight as an original track.

The Winners:

There wouldn’t be a Best Of Dubstep 2011 without Skrillex on it somewhere. The kid has had an unbelievable year. The Mothership Tour, 2 EPs, OWSLA, Countless collaborations and 5 Grammy Nods… C’mon. My #1 pick easily goes to his remix for Benny Benassi and Gary Go. The perfect combination of melody, breakdowns and bass.

Benny Benassi ft. Gary Go- Cinema (Skrillex Remix)

Nero tops the Best Of list for two years straight. Their remix of Plan B’s ‘The Recluse’ is still hot shit and this year’s #2 pick goes to their sexy remix of one of the year’s hottest tracks.

Calvin Harris- Feel So Close (Nero Remix)

Honourable Mentions:

This list could be 10 tracks deep but in the spirit of a quick and concise list we’ll keep it to three. Bassnectar had another great year, Adventure Club are on FIRE and Minnesota continues to drop quality dimes.

Ellie Goulding- Lights (Bassnectar Remix)

James Vincent McMorrow- We Don’t Eat (Adventure Club Remix)

Sander Van Doorn- XX Booty (Minnesota RMX)

Go Buy: Skrillex- Bangarang EP

27 Dec

Is that Itunes gift card from Aunt Edna burning a hole in your pocket? If so, then we have the perfect holiday buy for you.

After Skrillex remixed ‘Levels’ we all thought he was going to end 2011 on the highest note possible. Just to prove the haters wrong he unleashed a 7 track EP of epic proportions. Several of the tracks have been leaked throughout the year but the final product clears up any confusion surrounding track titles and collaborations.

The standout track for me is ‘Summit’ which until a few days ago we thought was called ‘Breathe’. It features a short vocal snippet from Ellie Goulding and showcases the softer side of Skrill.

The other two tracks featuring Sirah are the hard hitting, pump up dubstep that we have become accustomed to.

Best Of 2011: Electro House

22 Dec

Electro House has seen its fair share of attention this year. It has quickly transformed from being one of the most popular sub-genres of electronic music to being one of the most blurred genres out there.

Electro has almost turned into a secondary category that only accompanies dubstep and is rarely seen in its purest form. With a new crop of artists like Porter Robinson, Zedd and Mord Fustang- Electro has become a stepping stone in the melting pot of EDM.

For the sake of this ‘Best Of’ series and my sanity, we have picked our favourite tracks of 2011 based on genres categorized by Beatport. With that being said, our picks are purely based on personal taste and they give remixes the same weight as an original track.

The Winners:

Mord Fustang has been very successful in keeping his productions melodic while maintaining the harder elements of electro house. With tracks like ‘Milky Way’, ‘Electric Dream’ and ‘A New World’ he brings in big bass drops and a touch of dubstep. My #1 pick for Electro House track of the year has to go to ‘Lick The Rainbow’.

Mord Fustang- Lick The Rainbow (Original Mix)

I don’t even need to talk about the year Porter Robinson has had. From high school obscurity to opening for Tiesto… From big remixes and his debut album on OWSLA he has been at the forefront of the Electro House movement and has been instrumental in its transformation. With some very strong tracks on his Spitfire EP, his remix of Spencer & Hill- Less Go is my #2 pick of the year.

Spencer & Hill- Less Go! (Porter Robinson Remix)

Honourable Mention:

Beatport has categorized ‘Strange Behaviour’ as both dubstep and drum n bass but it has that genre crossing electro feel that we have become accustomed to. This track has been released both on Mau5trap Records and UKF and deserves the honourable mention position.

Feed Me- Strange Behaviour (feat. Tasha Baxter)

Skrillex- Breathe (Instrumental + Vocal Edit)

17 Dec

An unreleased and unfinished Skrillex track has surfaced and it is AMAZING.

‘Breathe’ is literally a breath of fresh air from his standard heavy dubstep wawaaaa glitchy baaahhh womp womp drops. Skrillex reminds us once again that he is a gifted artist and won’t be type casted to one genre.

Taking a more housey approach with a melodic bass line and chopped up vox this will be a HUGE release. My apologies for the unfinished version but this should feed the void until the official track is released.

EDIT:

The final (?) version of Breathe has now leaked and it features vocals from Krewella and the expected dubstep edge. The original instrumental still has the upper hand in my books.

Charlie Darker- Deadroll (Original Mix)

15 Dec

After Charlie Darker came out of obscurity to release ‘Vader’ (see below) I was an instant fan. The dubstep collab with Toronto MC- Dante Leon will easily make it on the ‘best of 2011’ list and be remembered for years to come.

With that being said, Charlie has unleashed a new track. Calling it a fusion between electro, moombahton and dubstep, ‘Deadroll’ is another stepping stone in Charlie’s bright future. And after hitting the 1,000 Facebook Likes it can be YOURS to listen to non-stop.

Hit him up on Facebook and make sure you grab ‘Vader’ below!

Metric- Collect Call (Adventure Club Dubstep Remix)

13 Dec

The clash of two Canadian groups could not have sounded any better.

Our beloved Metric gets some bass and Adventure Club’s delicate dubstep touch. The duo from Montreal have been making some huge waves in the blogosphere and within a day have made their way to another #1 ranking on Hype Machine.

Check out more on their Soundcloud and show some love on Hypem.

Avicii- Levels (Skrillex Remix)

9 Dec

Well the song of the year just got remixed by the man of the year. We’ve all been waiting patiently after the youtube preview surfaced and finally we have a full quality version to bask in this weekend.

The combination of Avicii and Skrillex is like mixing water with oil. Despite tearing up the EDM scene in 2011 these two couldn’t be more different in a musical sense. But somehow Skrillex makes this remix work- keeping the now notorious vocals intact while adding in his signature chopped and glitchy magical dubstep touch.
