Earthquakey People – Steve Aoki feat. Rivers Cuomo (Andrew W.K. Trash Remix)

23 Nov

A couple weeks ago we brought you  the Dillon Francis remix of Earthquakey People, a new track from Steve Aoki which features Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo. It received quite a good reception, but Andrew W.K. has give the track the remix treatment to show how a little tweaking can change the entire feeling of a song.

You probably wouldn’t even recognize the original song other than perhaps the chorus. Steve Aoki is almost completely removed from the track all together in the Trash Remix. But strangely I am completely ok with that.

Check out the Andrew W.K. Trash Remix below and let us know what you think about which version you like better.

Nov 14-18 – Codhoppers Weekly Playlist

20 Nov

You may have noticed I’ve been a bit absent lately. This comes from a variety of reasons, including a busy work week, family illness and an 8 month pregnant fiancé…Along with all of these things there has also been a lack lustre amount of music to report on. Last week was HUGE with albums leaking so when the big Drake and Gambino albums dropped, everyone had already heard them.

Besides all of that I still managed to work my way through a good amount of music at work this week. You’ll notice that I got into listening to a series of albums from one artist in a row. It may not expose me to a lot of different artists, but it is a good way to hear the span of music an artist has produced. I listened to a lot of good music this week, so click on Read More to check out my weekly playlist. Enjoy and let me know what you think.

Childish Gambino vs. Red Hot Chili Peppers (Vico Ono Mashup)

19 Nov

Vico Ono always strikes when the irons hot and with the success of Childish Gambino’s latest album i’d say this is perfect timing. He takes the standout track ‘Bonfire’ and mixes it with the always pleasant instrumental from ‘Under The Bridge’.

Download ‘Bonfire Under The Bridge’ below and head over to Vico Ono’s Soundcloud page for many more mashups.

Nov 7-11 – Codhoppers Weekly Playlist

11 Nov

Recently I have started working in an office, where listening to music is acceptable. For the first two months I listened to the local radio station that specialized in rock music. Unfortunately their music selection was awful, they played the same songs every single day and rotated between about 20 bands. On three separate occasions I caught them playing the same song within an hour and a half of each other, but these were not new songs! They were songs from the 90s!

Anyways I finally made a stand and decided to bring in speakers and an iPod and make my own musical selections from here on in. I saw this as a good opportunity to share with you what I choose to listen to when I slave away at work. Now lets remember that it is an open office where people can walk in off the street, so dubstep and rap are definitely off the list.

Skrillex & The Doors- Breakin’ A Sweat (It’s Alright)

27 Oct

We gave you the teaser and today thanks to Just Do Hits we have the full collaboration between Skrillex & The Doors. An odd combination but the result is just short of a masterpiece. Would have loved for some variation in the drops but the overall production and rock vs. dubstep variation is great. Check out more from the Re:Generation project HERE

Go Buy: Nirvana- Nevermind 20th Anniversary Edition

5 Oct

When Codhoppers asked me to fill in for this week’s edition of ‘Go Buy…’ my mind immediately went blank. Mainly because I never buy music.

Being an electronic music fan there is an abundance of daily releases and file sharing sites like mediafire and zippy that make it very easy to download music illegally.

The ease of downloading your favourite new release accompanied by the fact that many of us are starving students provides a solid justification for never having to actually BUY music, ever. So my hunt to find something special enough to spend your hard earned dollars began…

Hit the jump for a look at the Nirvana- Nevermind 20th Anniversary Edition for your chance to be apart of a major milestone in music history.

Gameday Regulars Skip The DL, Go Straight To The EP

28 Sep

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Mightier Than Sword are putting together one hell of a collection of bands. Gameday Regulars are another stunning example of this.

Yesterday they released their debut EP ….But It’s Hell In The Hallway and along with having one of the best band names in the music industry, they have one of the greatest debut EP’s I’ve ever heard.

To describe it best I would have to say it sounds like a mix of Living With Lions and In Bear Country, which is quite the compliment. You should go out and buy this EP from the Mightier Than Sword digital store, but first check out a couple songs off the EP below.

Go Buy Neighbourhoods – Blink 182

27 Sep

So it’s Tuesday and that means that brand new music has hit the record stores. Now I think its quite obvious that the Go Buy album of the week is Blink 182’s Neighbourhoods. Their first album in eight years, and it is really the culmination of all the crazy things that have happened since their Self-Titled album was released in 2003.

Blink broke up, started other bands, fought publicly, produced, and almost died. But despite this they have buried the hatchet and come back with an outstanding album that sounds exactly what you would expect Blink 182 to sound like in 2011. The fart and poop jokes are gone and a more mature sound has emerged.

The first thing I picked up on was how much it sounds like Angels and Airwaves meets +44, which ironically is exactly what has happened. The original reason they went on hiatus was that Tom wanted some time off to do his own thing and expand with a different sound. Mark and Travis eventually did the same thing. Now that they are recording again it sounds as though they have made a compromise and put the sounds together to make something amazing.

There are some standout tracks on the album, including Natives, After Midnight, and MH 4.18.2011. Also you have to listen to the Hearts All Gone and the Interlude that leads into the track. It’s hard to explain but the whole album just works. It’s all I’ve been listening to for the last week (yes I got an advanced copy) and I love it more each time I hear the album.

Stream Natives and MH 4.18.2011 below and go out and buy this album. Just do it

Check out Citizen Right Now

24 Sep

I’ve written before about checking out bands that bands you like recommend. That is exactly how I came across Citizen, a band from the Ohio/Michigan area which is right in my backyard. Turnover posted about them today, and I’m really happy they did.

Citizen are currently streaming their Young States EP on band camp right now and you can pick it up for the dirt cheap price of 4 dollars. You can’t get a better deal on a quality EP, I can promise you that.

Young States offers everything you would want from your punk rock. Gang vocals, melodic break downs and catchy lyrics. Don’t sleep on this band. Check out their Young States EP below as well as a two track acoustic EP.

Best Music Video I’ve Seen In A Long Time – Fireworks – Arrows

23 Sep

This video is just plain awesome. Piñata people being chased by a crazy arrow carrying murderer. Vomiting and bleeding candy. What a great concept. The song that goes along with the video is really great as well. Arrows comes off the new Fireworks album Gospels which is now available from iTunes or your local record establishment. Check out the video above and convince your friends that a piñata is a must for your next party.

Go Buy Better Off – Ten Second Epic

20 Sep

For the second instalment of Go Buy, I am bringing you an amazing Canadian band that are back with a brand new album. Ten Second Epic are alternative rockers hailing from Edmonton that I have been listening to for a long time.

I used to go to their concerts in the London Ontario area way back in 2006 and 2007 when they made the rounds with the likes of Boys Night Out and The Reason. I just listened to their 2006 full length debut Count Yourself In yesterday and was reminded of how amazing they really are.

Better Off is their latest release and the follow up to their 2009 album Hometown. It features ten songs that stick to the melodic Ten Second Epic style but offer a more mature and polished sound. That is to be expected after recording for almost ten years.

You should go pick up this album today. The entire album is great and you should always support Canadian artists. Check out the music video for the first single, Young Classics below and remember that if we want quality music to continue to be produced, we need to pay for it.

Starkillers, Alex Kenji, Nadia Ali & Alesso ft. Coldplay (East & Young Mashup)

9 Sep

If you were lucky enough to see Alesso over the past month you would have noticed that he has been closing out his sets with an unbelievable mashup of his Pressure remix vs. Coldplay- Fix You. Due to his impeccable repertoire you probably assumed it was his bootleg but I recently discovered that it comes from the dutch duo- East & Young.

Check these guys out on their Soundcloud and be on the lookout for many more progressive house gems!

Up All Night Behind The Scene’s Video

8 Sep

With Neighbourhoods being released so soon I have put myself into Blink 182 lock down. I refuse to listen to any more songs that have been released other than Up All Night because I want the full album experience the first time I listen to it. But in the mean time I still need my Blink-182 fix so this Behind The Scenes video fits the bill. Check it out.

Alternative Rock veterans Thrice are trying something new when it comes to marketing their latest album Major/Minor. After releasing two singles earlier in the summer, Thrice have decided to release a song a day until the album is released on September 20th.

They started rolling out the songs yesterday when they released Blinded and today they followed up with Cataracts. Both are really good and should make both old and new fans of Thrice happy.

Stream A New Four Year Strong Song

8 Sep

Four Year Strong are an outstanding band that are making a statement with their new album. They have parted ways with their synth keyboard player and are going for a more distinctive rock sound with their fourth full length, In Some Way, Shape or Form.

The album was originally set to be released on October 11th but has since been pushed back to November 8th. Usually production and mixing is the reason for an album to be delayed, but in this case it was to add another song to the album. Falling On You is a brand new song that the band has written and decided that it was to good not to be included in the album.

I really love the song, intact I think it is my favourite tune that has been leaked from the album. My only worry is that it won’t mesh well with the rest of the album since it was written so much later than the rest of the album. But I guess we will find out November 8th.

Stream Two Songs From Tom Vek

6 Sep

This is another tune from this months Spin Playlist, it was a good crop of songs this month. Tom Vek has been around for a while but hadn’t released any material in 6 years until he released Leisure Seizure earlier this year.

When I heard Aroused the name Tom Vek sounded oddly familiar but I couldn’t remember why. On further Wikipedia investigation it turns out that Tom performed on The O.C. at the Baitshop back in the day.

I was a huge fan of the O.C. but the best thing about that show was the soundtrack. The O.C. was the best play to be exposed to indie artists in the early 2000’s and I used to watch the episode then go online and see all the artists that were featured in that episode.

Anyways, you should check out Tom Vek as Leisure Seizure is a great album with a ton of good songs. Check out my two favourite tracks below, Aroused and A.P.O.L.O.G.Y. Both standout tracks on the album, which I highly suggest you pick up.

Kiss Cam – Arkells Music Video

3 Sep

The Arkells are back with a brand new album entitled Michigan Left which is set to drop on October 18th. Kiss Cam is the second single released from Michigan Left and there is a great music video to accompany it’s release.

If you haven’t checked out Arkells before you are missing out. Jackson Square was one of my favourite albums a couple years ago and I used to listen to it religiously while studying for exams. You need to go out and get that album today to prepare yourself for Michigan Left.

Stream The New Young Statues Track Spacism

3 Sep

Run For Cover records has put together quite the collection of great bands like Hot Rod Circuit, Man Overboard and Hostage Claim just to name a few. But the Run For Cover band to keep your eyes out for is Young Statues.

Young Statues have a new album coming out on November 8th and if Spacism is any indication, this album is going to be something amazing. It’s got a folk rock guitar feel to it and I love that. It almost feels like something you’d listen to driving into the sunset in a flatbed Ford, but maybe that’s just me.

Check out Spacism from Young Statues below and write November 8th on your calendar so you don’t forget to pick up this album.
