Luke Leighfield is a British singer/songwriter that rolls out piano based pop-rock. He definitely has a Ben Folds vibe, and there is nothing wrong with that.

His latest album Have You Got Heart is available for FREE download on his bandcamp and it is the best click you will make all day.

Songs like Every Day and 60,000 Miles really showcase his raw talent and will have you singing along almost instantly. The chorus are infectious and present more than the generic three piece band can ever offer.

Check out his latest album below and be sure to download it, because its free and because you’ll love it.

Magnetic Man

There has been a lot of buzz surrounding a new ‘supergroup’ consisting of Skream, Benga & Artwork. If you have been a little slow on the uptake, like myself, get familiar quick with this video of the track Perfect Stranger being performed at Parklife 2010 in Manchester. The trio from the UK mesh together dubstep, drum & bass and breaks to form some innovative and fresh electronic beats which has been labeled ‘vocal dubstep’. Grab this track below and get excited for the album which drops October 4th.

This is a big personal shoutout to some German friends that I met traveling in Australia last year. My buddy and I were living in a van and we just so happened to meet some German ladies that were doing the same thing. So we decided to take a road trip together to the Great Ocean Road which is one of the coolest spots in the world. Campfire on the beach, brewskies, good tunes and the company of three women that could barely speak english. Just wanted to give a shoutout to you and all your German countrymen. I know Minimal is very popular over there so here are three big ones for you courtesy of Matteo Poker out of Italy. Check out his soundcloud HERE

500 Days of Weezy

28 Jul
EDIT- The link to download is broken, when it gets fixed I will repost it.
So last year a movie came out called 500 Days of Summer. I didn’t see it, neither did you, lets be honest. But I guess the movie had an unreal soundtrack.

So good infact someone has spent the time to remix the entire album with Weezy material. There are no new songs but there are some amazing jams on this album.

My favourite is the song Please, Hustler Please which is a mix of Please, Please, Please Let me Get What I Want by The Smiths and Hustler Musik. Check it out below.

No bullshit I’ll get right to the point. Yesterday Kanye West jumped on a folding table at the Facebook HQ in California yesterday and starting spitting verses off his next album. He also performed a poem entitled Mama’s Boyfriend. Still no word on when it is to be released, rumor has it Sept 14th but don’t quote me on that.

No one is really sure why he decided to drop his new material this way, maybe so Taylor Swift couldn’t plot her revenge…But who cares it is new Kayne and it is damn good.

Check out the videos below and go here to see the Rolling Stone write up.

Remember This Is Not A Game

The Roots have just released a video for their single The Fire off their 2010 release How I Got Over.

The video is set in 1945 Europe and is directed by Rik Cordero. Cordero has worked with hip hop icons such as Jay-Z, Nas, Beanie Segal and many others. He is know for his unusually and nontraditional shooting techniques that set his pieces apart from the rest of the pack.

Cordero has this to say about his latest project.

“The Fire” chronicles a post-apocalyptic death march set in 1945 during the final stages of World War II in Europe. After a cataclysmic event renders the war futile, a paramilitary splinter group — led by a Kurtz-like figure known as The Commodore — forces the transfer of young men who will be used as labor…and food. The last survivor of the march receives a mysterious White Box which holds the key to survival. – Rik

Treelines are the self-described lovechild of Canadian indie rock icons The Weakerthans and the immensely talented Gaslight Anthem. I personally can’t agree more. They offer straight-forward rock and roll that is perfect for summer listening.

Since forming in 2009 Treelines have released a self titled LP and on July 1st they released a follow up 6 song EP. You can definitely tell that this band is growing and expanding their musical talents.

I purchased my copy of their Self-Titled debut this week from their bandcamp and have been listening to it non-stop. This probably has something to do with my lack of new material on the website, but I promise to pick it up.

Check out their debut LP below and go and support Canadian Artists, they need your help. You can download two songs for free or purchase the album for only 2 dollars (or more).

Saturday Night Treats

24 Jul

I bring you some big tunes here just in time for your saturday night festivities. DYM/Damn You Mongolians informed me of a brand new track that he has released on his soundcloud. I was going to just post this new gem but then I started listening to some other tracks that have somehow slipped through the cracks. Steve Southern from Sunderland, Britain has been dropping bombs in the form of dubstep and drum & bass and he needs to be on everyone’s radar. Check out these goodies below and let your saturday night soundtrack become significantly enhanced.

Well look at this. The Conductor has picked up his bootstraps and has been pumping out material at an alarming rate. I’m almost sorry I will be taking up his time tonight because who knows what he could have coming!

But now that the electro and house stuff is covered, I can go back to my passion, which is indie rock gems and the shit that you may not have ever even heard of. So by the power invested in me by the light of God, I present this weeks collection.

Dutch Fever

20 Jul

I’ve never been much of a soccer fan but after this years World Cup I can definetly get down with the enthusiasm and pride that goes along with cheering for your country to win something of that magnitude. Coming from a long line of Canadian heritage I didnt have a country to cheer for until I made a trip up to Toronto to visit some buddies. I became dutch for a day and after they beat Brazil I got to experience the post game celebration consisting of driving around downtown Toronto with the flag out the window, woo’ing at anyone and everyone that would listen. This day only added to my love for the Netherlands and its people. Who couldn’t love a country whose capital is Amsterdam? This post does have a point and it is that up till recently I have HATED dutch house music. Maybe being dutch for a day gave me a new outlook but I find myself being drawn to the high pitched ‘noise’ that dutch house brings. I have had a hard time understanding the rave behind the genre but alas, I bring you 3 dutch house tunes that may just sway your tastes in a different direction.

Only Every Time

17 Jul

I am actually ecstatic being able to write this blog today. After 3 years of demoing and teasing fans with new material, we can FINALLY prepare for new music from The Graduate.

The Graduate formed in the winter of 2005 and quickly released the Horror Show EP before being picked up by Icon Records who released their critically acclaimed LP Anhedonia and Evergreen EP. After some financial trouble Icon folded and left The Graduate without a label.

Since then The Graduate have been flirting with record companies but could never find something that fit, that is until Razor and Tie came in . In May of 2010 The Graduate were signed again and have announced that a new album is headed our way on August 31st!

Until then here is the first single Don’t Die Digging. Click on read more for tour videos and track listing.

The Swelly Life Episode 1

15 Jul

Being the Chiddy Bang fanboy that I am, I have the first tour promo video entitled The Swelly Life Episode 1.

This video takes us from radio interviews to a Chiddy Bang show and we even get to see the response and awkward dancing of Xaphoon Jones when they discover they are receiving a plaque for their album going Gold in Australia.

I had no idea Xaphoon plays live drums at their shows, that makes them even better, if that is possible. Check out The Swelly Life below.

Cod’s Collection

13 Jul

Today is a sad day. This is not how this post originally started, but I saw some very unfortunate news. George Steinbrenner is no longer with us. The Boss is gone. I don’t really know what to say. It was so unexpected, and a tough week for the organization after losing long time announcer Bob Sheppard earlier this week. Steinbrenner just turned 80 on July 4th. He was a Yankee through and through.

Steinbrenner has been the primary owner of the New York Yankees since 1973 and has watched his team win 7 World Championships, the last of which was last October.

George Steinbrenner was the fucking king of New York for a long time. He really changed what being an owner really was. It was his team and things were done his way. Steinbrenner once hired a coach and then fired him at his own welcome press conference because the coach told George that he would not be welcome in the clubhouse. To put things into perspective, Steinbrenner bought the Yankees for 10 Million dollars, and turned the team into a billion dollar franchise.  Steinbrenner did what he wanted and won championships. R.I.P. George, you will be missed.

Now onto music. It’s been another busy week for us at Ambassador Beats, but things are coming together. We are making connections with local artists and trying to pump out as much material as we can for you.

This weeks collection takes a little of everything, but has a distinct indie/dance feel to it this week. We have some synth pop, the new single from the Killers front man Brandon Flowers plus the album stream of Paul Wall’s newest release.
